#Blogbattle : Old and New

This week’s #blogbattle theme word is vampire. #Blogbattle is a weekly event hosted by the wonderful Racheal Ritchey over at the new #Blogbattle site. Take a look at her website and books as well. It’s worth it.

Genre: Poetry / Contemporary

Old and New

He stands beneath
Shadows of trees
Staring up at lights
Shining against dark skies

Outlining modern life
Modern love
Modern women
Modern men

Not the vampire of years past
Of the dark years
Dark nights
Candlelight
And starry skies

His long coat touches the ground
As he turns away
Sweeping the grass
Moving as the tree sways

The old and new do not blend
Do not mix
Cannot meld

The old vampire
Barred
From the new world

This was a last minute piece of inspiration. It’s very rough, and needs some work. Okay, maybe a lot of work. 🙂 But I was really struggling with the word this week, and I couldn’t just let #blogbattle pass, so took the inspiration when it finally came and ran with it.

  1. This is so much different than your usual pieces. I like it. Poetry is one thing where, at least for me, no one can go wrong. And you’ve done a really good job considering that you wrote this as the last minute inspiration 🙂

    1. Thanks. 🙂
I think it’s sometimes easier to write something that’s straight from the heart, that doesn’t need dialogue and description and all the bells and whistles of a story. Poetry feels simpler in that sense to me (thought it’s got it’s own complications). It can be bare, and just say what you mean.
